I love making books to hold mementos from the most special times of life. Whether a grandmother is turning 100, a baby is being born, a new business is opening, or a beloved coworker is retiring, I want to create the perfect book for it, matching the color scheme, patterns, illustrations, and vibe of the event to craft a truly personalized and memorable keepsake.
A guestbook for Brasa Haya, a resturant serving Spanish cuisine in Portland, OR, was one of my favorites to create. The inside cover displays a sample of the wallpaper. Burnt paper edges give a nod to the Restaurant's name which translates to “beech ember,” and the many dishes grilled over open fire. The logo, designed by Tony Cordero, was drawn onto the book cloth with chalk before I painted over it with acrylic.
A guestbook for a wedding held in Savannah, Georgia. I dyed the book cloth to mimic the indigo-dyed napkins that I knew would be at the reception, and the wedding date on the cover was created in keeping with the design and color scheme of the wedding invitation.
